Union Omaha come out with a 2-1 over Toronto II to reclaim first place in League One standings

PAPILLION, Neb. - A back a forth game sees the home side, Union Omaha, come out on top 2-1 against Toronto FC II.

Union Omaha pushed hard right out of the gate and was rewarded with a goal in the 6th minute. Greg Hurst, who has nine goals on the season, notched his first assist tonight with a beauty of a chipped pass over the heads of Toronto II defenders and right to the feet of Devin Boyce, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Toronto II had a lot of problems on the defensive end during the first half. The opening goal for Omaha came off a poor pass from a Toronto defender, and there were multiple times where the home team was able to catch Toronto playing high and played through the lines for breakaways. If Omaha put the ball away on those opportunities, the score could have easily been 3-0 at the half.

Although it seems like Omaha would score another goal before the game finished, it was Toronto II who found the back of the net next. Luke Singh took a beautiful free-kick right outside the 18-yard box that bounced past the goalkeeper to level the game at a goal apiece in the 53rd minute.

Omaha continued to push through the Toronto II defense, determined to retake the lead. And that they did. In the 70th minute, Damia Viader sent a beautifully lofted cross into the box that found John Scearce, who was able to put the ball in between the legs of Toronto II’s goalkeeper to give Omaha the lead once again. Not a bad first goal for Scearce.

With the 2-1 win, Union Omaha retakes the top spot on the League One standings, which continues to be a tight race with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.

TFC II will now return home to host Forward Madison FC next Friday, while Omaha's next fixture is a trip to North Texas SC on Sunday, September 19.
