Tormenta score two goals in two minutes to get the win at home over North Texas

STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC score two unanswered goals within two minutes of each other to get the win at home over North Texas SC.

Tormenta seemed to have the upper hand against North Texas from kick-off, but it took until the 30th minute for the home side to score. Luca Mayr-Fälten was able to slip a ball off a cross from Curtis Thorn right past the keeper to give Tormenta the lead.

Just two minutes later, Mayr-Fälten laid off a beautiful floating pass to Azaad Liadi who scored off an incredible diving header. Despite Tormenta’s comfortable lead, North Texas never gave up its push to find a goal.

A few minutes after Tormenta’s second goal, North Texas had their strongest chance at closing the scoring gap. Thibaut Jacquel has an opportunity from inside the 6-yard box but Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara does just enough to cover the near post to force the ball wide.

Jara came up big again for Tormenta in the 69th minute when North Texas’ Nicky Hernandez took a shot moving towards the upper right corner, but the keeper was able to grab it in time.

Despite creating 15 chances and putting five balls on frame, North Texas was unable to find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes.

Both teams are back in action next Saturday, with North Texas hosting Union Omaha and Tormenta visiting Fort Lauderdale CF.
