CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga Red Wolves SC once again finds a goal in the dying minutes of stoppage time to get the win 1-0 over North Texas SC.
The entire match was a coin toss for who was to score the opening goal, but it was to much surprise that it took until second-half stoppage time for it to finally occur.
One of the best chances of the night for North Texas took place in the 32nd minute when Blaine Ferri found the ball off a Chattanooga defender mishap to switch the possession. After a successful tackle, the ball found the feet of Jorge Almaguer, who laid off a beautiful through ball to Nicky Hernandez. Chattanooga goalkeeper Tim Trilk was able to step up and stop the shot at point-blank range to keep the game scoreless.
In the 90+3 minute of stoppage time, Red Wolves midfielder José Carrera intercepted the ball from North Texas and sent Johnathan Ricketts up the sideline. Ricketts did what he does best and laid off a beautifully timed cross to the feet of Jimmie Villalobos, who was able to put the ball past the keeper.
North Texas had one last opportunity in the final play of the game, but the free kick taken by Rio Ramirez went just wide of the post.
With the win, Chattanooga increases the undefeated streak to 15 games and passes Union Omaha to claim the top spot on the League One table.
Both teams are back in action on the road this Saturday, as Chattanooga takes on Greenville Triumph SC and North Texas heads to Georgia to face Tormenta FC.
