GREENVILLE, S.C. - Strong performances from Aaron Walker and JJ Donnelly spurred Greenville Triumph SC to a 3-0 win over Toronto FC II on Friday night at Legacy Early College.
Greenville got off to a flying start and never looked back, scoring twice inside the opening six minutes. Donnelly and Walker both struck in fine fashion to give Triumph SC a precious early cushion, the perfect tonic for the team looking to break its four-game losing skid.
Coming into the night, Greenville had won 5 of 8 games this season in which it scored first, and throughout the match the team's penchant for protecting leads was evident. In the second half, Triumph SC were happy to limit space for their opposition, and clinically wrapped up the three points when Donnelly assisted Walker on a counterattack for his second goal of the game in the 68th minute.
The win is Greenville's first since July 4, not only providing a much-needed momentum boost but also moving the South Carolina side up to third place in the standings.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday, with Greenville hosting Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and Toronto continuing its road swing with a visit to Union Omaha.
