Five nominees announced for season's fourth Player of the Month award

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Thursday the five nominees for the Cleer Audio League One Player of the Month award for August, with top performers from the season’s fourth full month selected for the ballot.

Voting for the Cleer Audio League One Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following two voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLLeagueOne.com will comprise 60 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, September 6 at 12 p.m. ET.

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 40 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, September 9.

Please note: The Cleer Audio League One Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as League One Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL League One Player of the Month – August

Max Flick, North Carolina FC – From an open tryout to a regular starting role, Flick's 13 interceptions and 23 clearances were both league highs during the month of August. The defender also made 35 recoveries and won 7 of his 11 attempted tackles.

Ricky Ruiz, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC – Ruiz scored the game-winning goal for Chattanooga in a top-of-the-table clash against Omaha, and tied for the league lead in assists (three) and chances created (11) during August.

Edward Kizza, New England Revolution II – Kizza was dominant in front of goal in August, scoring four goals and creating four chances in three games to help push the Revolution II into playoff contention.

Akira Fitzgerald, Richmond Kickers – Veteran goalkeeper Fitzgerald made 14 saves and kept two shutouts in August, while maintaining a 77.8 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average.

Aaron Molloy, Forward Madison FC – Molloy has been a Swiss Army knife in the Madison midfield this year. In four games this August, he recorded six chances created, won 30 of 45 duels, made 14 tackles, 41 recoveries and scored a goal from outside the box which won Fans' Choice Goal of the Week.
