Hurst's strike equalled out by Kamungo's early second half effort as sides earn point apiece

PAPILLION, Neb. - Union Omaha and North Texas SC drew one apiece in an exciting overall contest that saw Owls forward Greg Hurst's opener equalled out by NTSC supersub Bernard Kamungo's early second half effort.

Into the heart of the first half, Omaha got the first look on goal after 17 minutes when midfielder Devin Boyce's cross-cum-shot clanged off the crossbar and fell to the forward Hurst, though he was unable to get square soon enough to put his effort on frame. However, Hurst would make up for that just three minutes later as he took midfielder Conor Doyle's through-pass and lifted a calm left-footed finish over North Texas SC goalkeeper Richard Sánchez for a lead they would hold through halftime.

Coming out of the break, though, North Texas SC pounced on an early opportunity that saw forward Kazu feed a ball through for halftime substitute Bernard Kamungo, who displayed good strength in holding off his defender before powering it past Omaha shotstopper Rashid Nuhu for an equalizer. Looking for an edge, the hosts turned the tide and nearly found separation when Boyce clipped a ball in for Hurst sprinting toward the near post, but the forward's effort across goal narrowly missed the top corner and fell wide of goal. Four minutes later though, the visitors came back with a chance of their own as midfielder Gibran Rayo danced his way into the left side of the penalty area before opening up his body and guiding a shot toward the far post, though Nuhu was level to this effort to keep the score even. The back-and-forth nature of the contest continued throughout the entirety of the second half, most notably with Omaha's onslaught of opportunities in the final 10 minutes, but staunch defending and some excellent goalkeeping by Sánchez prevented the Owls from breaking the tie as the pair of sides earn a point apiece.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, August 7. Omaha will host Forward Madison FC on that day, while North Texas will make another away trip, this time to take on FC Tucson.
