TUCSON, Ariz. - Union Omaha moved two points clear at the top of the USL League One table on Saturday night, defeating FC Tucson 2-1 at Kino North Stadium.
The first half didn't produce much excitement, but that changed right before halftime. Omaha's Damià Viader picked up the ball about 40 yards from goal, drove forward, and unleashed a wicked left-footed strike. The ball was still rising as it rocketed into the top corner of the net, giving the visitors the lead.
It didn't take long after the break for los Búhos to double their lead. A swift counterattack saw Devin Boyce release Greg Hurst with a clever through ball, and Hurst rounded Tucson goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley to finish off the move with his eighth goal of the campaign.
Tucson would pull a goal back with about 15 minutes remaining when Deri Corfe set up Shak Adams, who forced in an own goal off of Omaha's Conor Doyle. But the home side ultimately came up just short as Omaha collected all three points.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday. Tucson will make the long trip east to take on the Richmond Kickers, while Omaha returns home to host North Texas SC.
