Ryan Spaulding's second half strike is all the hosts needed for victory over TFC II

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Hosts New England Revolution II defeated Toronto FC II thanks to a deflected second half strike from defender Ryan Spaulding to claim a second win in three games.

Nearly a half-hour into the first half, TFC II had the best opportunity to time when forward Julian Altobelli took a short corner into the penalty area and fired on goal, only to have Revs II defender Pierre Cayet clear the effort off the line with his head to keep things level.

Into the second half, New England had the lion's share of possession and looked the more likely to score, which proved true just after the hour mark. Looking for an opening, midfielder Jake Rozhansky switched play and found defender Ryan Spaulding on the left-hand side of the pitch, and Spaulding's successful 1v1 take on led to a deflected effort ton goal that passed TFC II goalkeeper Andreas Vaikla for the lone goal of the night.

TFC II returns to action next Friday, when the Young Reds will take on Greenville Triumph SC for the first time since 2019. The Revolution II have a 13-day break before hosting North Carolina FC on August 5.
