TUCSON, Ariz. - A strong showing from FC Tucson saw the hosts defeat Fort Lauderdale CF 2-1 thanks to goals from Deri Corfe and Manuel Ferriol, helping the side bounce back from defeat last weekend.
The hosts jumped out first when, in the 34th minute, Corfe received a pass from Giovanni Calixtro and fired a dipping effort at Fort Lauderdale's Luis Zamudio, who was able to make good contact with the ball but unable to ultimately keep it out of the back of the net.
Fort Lauderdale would find its equalizer just after the halftime interval as Edison Azcona drilled home from just outside the box to give the visitors life. The score would hold until a quarter of an hour left to play, when Manuel Ferriol took a pass from Charlie Dennis and beat a right-footed shot through and past Zamudio to restore the lead. Azcona was then sent off on a second yellow card in the 82nd minute, leaving any hopes for a draw unfound.
Tucson hits the road to take on Chattanooga Red Wolves SC next Saturday, while Fort Lauderdale CF has a two-week break before facing the Richmond Kickers on July 17.
