Union Omaha’s Greg Hurst named Player of the Week

TAMPA, Fla. - USL League One announced on Monday the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 10 of the 2021 regular season, with Union Omaha forward Greg Hurst named Player of the Week after scoring a hat trick in his side’s 4-2 win against the New England Revolution II on Saturday.

Hurst tallied Omaha’s first three goals of the game, completing his hat trick in the 47th minute. For the team’s opener, the Scotsman won the ball with a bit of smart pressing and rounded the goalkeeper before finishing from a tight angle. Hurst then scored just before and just after halftime to spur his side to victory. The first hat trick of the 2021 League One season moves Hurst level with Greenville’s Marios Lomis atop the Golden Boot race.

South Georgia Tormenta FC’s pair of 1-0 victories against Toronto FC II sees it lead all clubs with four players represented in Week 10’s Team of the Week.

GK - Pablo Jara, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Jara recorded two shutouts, one of which was a five-save performance in midweek. The Tormenta captain has now gone 278 minutes of League One play without allowing a goal.

D - Nkosi Tafari, North Texas SC: Tafari was a driving force behind North Texas’ dominant 3-0 win over Greenville Triumph SC on Sunday. The defender scored his team’s third goal and contributed to the shutout effort with five clearances while winning three duels.

D - Curtis Thorn, South Georgia Tormenta FC: In Tormenta’s first win of the week, Thorn assisted Marco Micaletto’s dramatic game-winning goal. In the team’s second win, Thorn passed at a 91 percent success rate while winning four duels and recording two tackles.

D - Jonathan Ricketts, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Ricketts powered in a header for the second goal in Chattanooga’s 3-2 win against Tucson. He also won five duels and made eight recoveries.

M - Kobe Perez, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Perez put in a wonderful display during Tormenta’s win against Toronto on Sunday. He scored the game’s only goal in some style, won eight duels, completed three successful dribbles, made two tackles, and created two chances while passing at a 95 percent success rate.

M - Devin Boyce, Union Omaha: Boyce recorded a goal and an assist in Omaha’s win against New England, and created four chances in total for his side while completing two tackles.

M - Marco Micaletto, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Tormenta’s talisman came through for them in a big moment, making a run late in a game played in high Florida heat to score an 88th-minute winner against Toronto last Wednesday night.

M - Charlie Dennis, FC Tucson: Though Tucson fell to Chattanooga on Saturday, Dennis made a huge impact as a second-half substitute. The English midfielder came off the bench and scored two terrific goals, both with his left foot from outside the penalty area.

F - Greg Hurst, Union Omaha: Hurst’s dominant hat trick performance showed why he’s one of the top strikers in League One, with a trio of high-quality goals that displayed his diverse skill set.

F - Ricky Ruiz, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Ruiz was simply brilliant for Chattanooga on Saturday night. The young forward scored his side's opening goal and assisted its other two, while also creating a game-high eight chances and winning 9 of 12 duels.

F - Kalil ElMedkhar, North Texas SC: ElMedkhar’s goal in the 28th minute was an absolute beauty, as he cut inside on his right foot and unleashed a curling finish from outside the box which nestled in the top corner. He won five duels and passed at an 81 percent success rate to help North Texas in its 3-0 win against Greenville.
