PAPILLION, Neb. - Greg Hurst scored the first hat trick of the 2021 USL League One season to lead Union Omaha to a 4-2 win over the New England Revolution II on Saturday night at Werner Park.
A frenetic, end-to-end first half saw both teams score within two minutes of each other. Hurst pounced on a defensive mistake and finished from a difficult angle to break the deadlock on 21 minutes for Omaha, only to see New England's Connor Presley level the score again two minutes later with a fantastic full volley from the edge of the penalty area.
But Hurst was at it again just before the break, reacting quickest to a rebound to restore Omaha's lead - and it wouldn't take long for the Scottish striker to complete his hat trick. On the other side of halftime, Hurst wrapped his right foot around the ball to curl a shot inside the far post for his and the team's third goal on the night.
The Revolution II would pull a goal back thanks to a wonderful goal from Michael Tsicoulias, but Devin Boyce put the game beyond reach when he scored for Omaha on a breakaway in the 77th minute. The Owls held on to the 4-2 scoreline for their-second straight win.
Omaha returns to the road for its first-ever trip to City Stadium next Saturday, where it will face the Richmond Kickers. Up next for the Revolution II is a visit to Forward Madison FC on the same day.
