Edison Azcona's stoppage time header gave the visitors all three points

CARY, N.C. - Edison Azcona's header in second half stoppage time gave Fort Lauderdale CF a dramatic 2-1 road win over North Carolina FC on Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Fort Lauderdale opened the scoring through Mitchell Curry on the half-hour mark. The Englishman's second goal in as many games polished off an excellent team move from the visitors, but the lead would last only five minutes.

North Carolina's Jay Tee Kamara did well to set up Selmir Miscic, whose smart movement created space to score his third goal of the season. The two teams went into halftime level, and both came out hungry for a winner in the second half.

As each side attacked, both goalkeepers were called upon often, and both were up to the task. NCFC's Malick Mbaye was sent off for a sliding tackle which stopped a Fort Lauderdale breakaway with 15 minutes remaining, and the visitors made the advantage count very late in the game.

Josh Penn whipped in a great cross from the right flank in the first minute of second half stoppage time, and Azcona was there to glance in a header and win the match for Fort Lauderdale.

Both teams now have a 10-day break before their next games on June 16. NCFC will make the short trip south to take on Greenville Triumph SC, while Fort Lauderdale returns home to host Toronto FC II.
