Alex Bruce's stoppage time goal canceled out Garrett McLaughlin's opener

ARLINGTON, Texas - Garrett McLaughlin's opener for Toronto FC II was canceled out by Alex Bruce's late equalizer for North Texas SC, as the sides played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Globe Life Park.

The first half featured few chances for either side - North Texas had more of the possession, but both teams registered only one shot on target apiece in the opening 45 minutes.

McLaughlin flashed a danger sign when he crashed a shot off the crossbar on 55 minutes, and sure enough it was a sign of things to come. The in-form striker popped up three minutes later to finish off a rebound and give the Young Reds the lead, his third goal in two games against North Texas this season.

A product of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, McLaughlin's strike looked like being the match-winner back in his collegiate hometown. But Bruce had other ideas. The North Texas forward capitalized on a scramble in the box to poke home an equalizer deep into second-half stoppage time, and the sides shared the points at the end of the night.

TFC II will now head back to Arizona for its final of three home games in Casa Grande, where the Young Reds will host Union Omaha on Wednesday. North Texas isn't back in action for another two weeks, when it will welcome Greenville Triumph SC to Globe Life Park in a rematch of the 2019 League One Final.
