STATESBORO, Ga. - Marios Lomis continued his incredible run of form to start the 2021 League One season on Saturday night, scoring the only goal of the game as Greenville Triumph SC defeated South Georgia Tormenta FC 1-0 at Erk Russell Park.

Greenville had most of the possession in the first half, but it was Tormenta who had the better of the chances as they also held the visitors to no shots on target during the opening 45 minutes. Josh Phelps had a good chance to open the scoring in the game's first minute, and Azaad Liadi's curling effort was denied only by an incredible save from Triumph SC goalkeeper Dallas Jaye.

Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara, who became the first player to reach his 50th League One regular season appearance on the night, did his utmost to keep Greenville from scoring in the second half. But Triumph SC's talisman Lomis eventually found the breakthrough with about 20 minutes remaining.

Don Smart played Lomis in with an excellent ball over the top, and the Dutch forward put away the chance with aplomb, curling his shot beyond Jara's reach. It was Lomis' fifth goal of the season, placing him atop the scoring charts at this early stage.

As it did so often last season, Greenville saw out the 1-0 result to take the three points with them on the short trip back to South Carolina.

Tormenta are at home again next weekend, when they'll welcome Forward Madison FC to Erk Russell Park. Triumph SC enters a three-week break, with its next action a trip to face North Texas SC on Sunday, June 13.
