The reigning MVP scored two goals to open his 2021 account and earn his side an important three points

RICHMOND, Va. - A pair of late goals from reigning League One MVP Emiliano Terzaghi helped the Richmond Kickers defeat South Georgia Tormenta FC 2-0 on Saturday night at City Stadium.

The first half featured few chances for either side, but it did have a moment far more meaningful than anything that can happen on a soccer field. In the 10th minute, the Richmond Kickers supporters honored their former coach and legend of the local soccer community David Bulow with a minute's silence after Bulow passed away on Friday.

The stalemate continued into the second half, with both sides fashioning a few half-chances but neither looking truly threatening to the opposition defense. That changed in the 80th minute, when last season's Golden Boot winner Terzaghi stepped up for Richmond.

Picking up a pass from Oalex Anderson, the Argentine did well to hold off his defender before swiveling and placing his finish out of reach of Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara. Terzaghi then converted a penalty kick in the final minute of normal time, and Richmond claimed all three points.

Emiliano Terzaghi, Richmond Kickers: After not really playing to the high standards he set last season in Richmond's opening three matches, Terzaghi looked like his old self in the closing stages against Tormenta. The Argentine's two late goals lifted the Kickers to a vital result, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Goal Summary

  • RIC (80'): Terzaghi (first), assisted by Anderson
  • RIC (89'): Terzaghi (second), penalty kick
