FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II announced Wednesday that the club has signed defender Pierre Cayet (pronounced: pee-AIR KYE-yay) to a USL League One contract pending league and federation approval.

Cayet, 21, recently finished his collegiate career at Temple University where he was unanimously named the 2021 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year – the first-ever Temple player to earn the honor. He was also the first Owl to win conference Defensive Player of the Year honors since 2004. A three-year starter, Cayet served as a captain during his senior season and played every minute of the season, earning him All-AAC First Team honors.

A native of Brettes-les-pins, France, Cayet led the Owls in minutes played over each his three seasons and finished his career with five goals and two assists. In his first year at Temple as a sophomore in 2018, he was named the team’s Defensive MVP. Cayet followed that up with a 2019 Second Team All-AAC selection in his junior season.

The 21-year-old began his professional career playing for Angers SCO in his native France, graduating from the club’s academy in 2017 before joining Angers B for the 2017-18 season. Cayet appeared in 11 matches for Angers B, starting nine times. The defender also suited up for the Long Island Rough Riders during the 2019 USL League Two campaign, appearing in six matches.

New England resumes its 2021 USL League One regular season on Wednesday, May 12 at Gillette Stadium against Union Omaha with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
