The 2020-2021 offseason brought about plenty of change in USL League One, at some clubs more than others. While teams like Greenville Triumph SC and Union Omaha only made a handful of additions, others reshuffled in an attempt to find a formula which will help them move up the table.

As the calendar turns to May and the season gets into full swing, here are five players with no previous experience in the USL Championship or USL League One to keep an eye on.

Richmond Kickers
Zaca Morán (Midfielder)

Morán’s first two appearances in a Kickers kit have been sensational. The River Plate product is both a tough defensive presence and good on the ball, bringing a well-rounded midfield skill set that appears suited to Head Coach Darren Sawatzky’s system. If Richmond is going to find success this season, it seems like Morán will be at the heart of it in his role as the team’s engine in the center of the action.

North Texas SC
Thibaut Jacquel (Forward)

Jacquel’s professional debut could hardly have gone better, as he bagged a brace and picked up League One Player of the Week honors for his performance in North Texas’ 4-2 win over Fort Lauderdale. The Frenchman was a standout for Lionsbridge FC in USL League Two before being selected by FC Dallas in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, and if his first performance is any indicator, Jacquel looks hungry to fill the goal-scoring gap left by the departures of Ronaldo Damus and Arturo Rodriguez from Globe Life Park.

North Carolina FC
Damian Las (Goalkeeper)

A U.S. Youth National Team player, the 19-year-old Las is a highly-rated prospect at the goalkeeper position. He joins NCFC on loan from Fulham FC, where he has been competing at the youth levels since joining from the Chicago Fire FC Academy in September 2019. The move will offer the precocious keeper an opportunity to log significant Senior Team minutes at the professional level for the first time in his career.

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
Juan Galindrez (Forward)

Not too many players had the privilege of being coached by the late great Diego Maradona, but Juan Galindrez is one such player. Maradona took a liking to Galindrez when they were both at Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa, nicknaming the Colombian forward “Tanque.” The 26-year-old Galindrez brings solid professional experience and is entering the prime of his career, both of which will serve him and Chattanooga as they look to replace the goal-scoring abilities of Greg Hurst and Steven Beattie.

FC Tucson
Alex Knox (Defender)

Knox is a 23-year-old right back coming off a stellar collegiate career at both Wake Forest and UCLA. A product of the Real Salt Lake Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona, Knox returns to The Grand Canyon State to begin his professional career with FC Tucson this season. Head Coach John Galas has been following Knox since he was just 14 and rates him highly, calling him, “a dynamic, energetic, technical player.” Keep an eye out for Knox in what is likely to be a new look Tucson defense.
