Chattanooga Red Wolves SC has signed midfielder Josue España to its 2021 roster, the club announced Sunday. España becomes the fourth new player and 11th player overall on Chattanooga’s 2021 roster.

Prior to signing with the Red Wolves, España most recently played for the Los Angeles Force and Stumptown Athletic in the National Independent Soccer League. The 25-year-old midfielder played for Chattanooga Head Coach Jimmy Obleda as a youth player before joining the LA Galaxy Development Academy.

"Josue is a special type of player, a very different type of player,” said Obleda. “Josue can beat you in a 1-v-1 situation or combine play to break a team down. His dynamic play will add to the explosive attack we plan to have for 2021."

Following his successful youth career, España went on to play two seasons at Florida International University where he tallied two goals and two assists in 30 matches. He played his final two collegiate seasons at the University of California - Santa Barbara, providing a team-high 11 assists in addition to three goals while earning All Big West First Team honors in both years.

"Josue gives us exactly what we are looking for in the middle of the field,” said Red Wolves General Manager Sean McDaniel. “We have high hopes for him as we continue shaping our roster.”

España also brings USL League Two experience to Obleda’s squad. The crafty midfielder made 28 appearances in four seasons in League Two, split across Ventura County Fusion, SIMA Aguilas, and Cedar Stars Rush.

“I was really drawn to the Red Wolves by the coaching staff and the opportunity to grow and learn,” said España. “I’m excited to be a part of such a professional organization and to play alongside players that I have history with like Ricky Ruiz, Marky Hernandez and Ro Pineda. I’m excited to be in the Scenic City. I appreciate cities with lots of views and hiking trails. “I’m looking forward to getting to do some outdoor activities.”
