South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed defender Sergi Nus to a one-year contract with a club option, the club announced Friday. Nus is the second newcomer and seventh player to be added to Tormenta FC’s 2021 roster.

Nus, who has experience at the USL League Two level, was originally slated to play for Tormenta FC 2 this summer prior to the season’s cancellation. Following the cancellation, the Barcelona, Spain native was invited to train with the club’s first team where he impressed the technical staff.

“Sergi is an intelligent young man who reads the game very well from center back,” TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. “He's played at a very high level in college and brings a different skill set than the center back profiles we've had here at Tormenta for the past couple of seasons. We’re excited to see the new options Sergi provides and to help develop his game for the professional level.”

Nus played spent three seasons with Fresno Fuego FC in USL League Two between college seasons and earned All-League First Team honors in 2017. He also trained with North Carolina FC while competing with the U-23 squad and went on trial with Kauno Zalgiris FC in Lithuania prior to joining Tormenta FC this summer.

“I’m delighted to sign for Tormenta FC,” Nus said. “I’d like to say thank you to Coach Ian and everyone involved in the club for believing in me. Statesboro is a special place, and Tormenta is more than a club; it is a big family and the perfect place to grow as a player. I can’t wait to play in front of the best fans in the country.”

Nus split his collegiate career between the University of Virginia and Duke University. The center back tallied nine goals and an assist across 41 games through his first two seasons at UVA before being sidelined with an injury for his entire junior season. Nus played his final collegiate season at Duke where he helped the side keep three clean sheets in 11 matches played.

Nus joins Pablo Jara, Craig McCall, Marco Micaletto, Stefan Mueller, Abuchi Obinwa and Curtis Thorn on Tormenta FC’s 2021 League One roster.
