Left-footed strike edges out Fort Lauderdale’s Edison Azcona for season-ending award

TAMPA, Fla - On September 24, Josh Coan smashed a left-footed strike into the upper-left hand corner of Philip Marceta’s goal to lift FC Tucson to a 2-1 win over Forward Madison at Kino Sports Complex.

On Monday, Coan’s goal also claimed its own honor as it was named the USL League One’s Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year, defeating Fort Lauderdale’s Edison Azcona curling effort by a large margin.

With his side under duress the majority of the match, Coan produced a moment of brilliance in the 55th minute to lift FCT to victory. The 22-year-old dummied Azad Liadi’s cutback, sending his defender sliding to the turf, before connecting with a perfectly-struck shot that sailed into the top corner to give Tucson a 2-1 lead.

Coan earned 82 percent of the vote in the Final to top Azcona for the award.
