Match will support MaryEllen Locher Breast Center

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC are set to host the first-ever P!NK Out at CHI Memorial Stadium during Saturday’s match against Forward Madison FC, the club announced Monday afternoon. The club partnered with its stadium sponsor, CHI Memorial, for the inaugural P!NK Out which will support the hospital’s MaryEllen Locher Breast Center for Excellence.

MaryEllen Locher was a local television news anchor and the first health reporter in Chattanooga whose courageous battle with breast cancer inspired the Center for Excellence. Lcoher pledged to make the breast cancer journey easier for all women following her fight with the disease.

Working alongside CHI Memorial, Lcoher provided insight and inspiration for the development of a breast center that would combine the best possible medical care in a calm and understanding atmosphere with the ultimate goal of reducing the time between diagnosis and treatment. Although she ultimately lost her battle to cancer in 2005, Locher’s legacy lives on in the thousands of women whose lives have been touched by the center which bears her name.

Saturday's P!NK Out is Chattanooga's last home match of the season

“It’s both an honor and incredible privilege to work collaboratively with CHI Memorial Hospital in the ongoing pursuit for a cure,” said Chattanooga Red Wolves Owner Bob Martino. “Raising awareness to fund needed equipment and services that assist the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center is a step towards erasing this terrible disease.”

In 2020, it’s estimated that over 275,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S.

“About 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetimes,” says CHI Memorial Hospital Vice President of Marketing & Communications Lisa McCluskey. “With early detection, it is highly treatable and beatable. Since the beginning of the pandemic, many women have postponed getting this vital annual screening and run the risk of being diagnosed at a later stage.  Events such as the Red Wolves Pink Out game help us to focus attention in a fun and engaging way on the importance of screening. It is the most important 20 minutes of a woman’s life. The Red Wolves have been an engaged partner with CHI Memorial in improving the health of our community.”

The limited-capacity crowd at Saturday’s match is encouraged to show support by wearing pink while the first 500 attendees will also receive a P!NK rally towel. There will be multiple fundraising and awareness events including a $1,000 donation for every Red Wolves goal scored, specialty pink drinks, a mobile mammogram screening center and contributions from the hospitality suite ticket sales. All proceeds to benefit the MaryEllen Breast Center.
