Midfielder scored in 94th minute to complete comeback on the road

Jerome Kiesewetter and Eduardo Sosa scored their first goals for Fort Lauderdale CF in the late stages of Saturday’s match to help their side to a 2-1 win over FC Tucson at Kino North Stadium.

FC Tucson started brightly, picking up a loose pass in midfield and quickly countering to create an early chance in the attacking third.  Roberto Alarcon forced goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira into a save at the end of the sweeping move, putting a low driven shot on frame.

FCT turned another counterattack into a chance in the 24th minute as Charlie Dennis intercepted a pass near midfield and played Elivelton through on goal, but the Brazilian’s shot went high and wide, failing to trouble Castanheira.

Elivelton had another chance ten minutes later, this time latching on to the end of a teasing ball across the box by Azaad Liaidi. Liadi’s pass found Elivelton unmarked at the back post, but Castanheira closed down quickly and made a save to deny the close-range effort.

Fort Lauderdale CF’s lone chance in the first half came from a set piece just outside the penalty area. Sami Guediri struck the dead ball well, but his shot drifted just wide of Amal Knight’s goal and the two sides went into the break tied at zero.

Liadi earned a penalty for FC Tucson in the 53rd minute after he was brought down from behind by Modesto Mendez inside the 18-yard box. Giovanni Godoy stepped up and slotted the penalty past Castanheira, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and finishing to his right for his first goal of the season.

Two minutes later Amal Knight denied Ricky Lopez-Espin from the spot at the other end, diving to his left to parry away the hip-height shot.

Godoy narrowly missed adding to his tally in the 61st minute, connecting with a bicycle kick from eight yards out, but Castanheira was equal to the effort and palmed it out of danger.

FCT nearly doubled its lead again in the 80th minute through another set piece. Niall Logue rose up and nodded Charlie Denniis’ out-swinging corner kick on frame, but Castanheira got fingertips to the header and tipped it over the bar to keep the deficit at one goal.

Castanheira again came to Fort Lauderdale CF’s rescue in the 87th minute, denying Alarcon who was played through on goal and quickly starting a counterattack the other way. The counter ran through Eduardo Sosa who played Jerome Kiesewetter through at the other end of the pitch and the German striker calmly finished past Knight to draw the visitors level.

In the fourth minute of second half stoppage time, Sosa gave the visitors the lead with a stunning goal from 25-yards out. Sosa picked up a partial clearance, took a touch, and struck a shot that hit the inside of the back post and beat Knight to seal three points for his side.

With the win, Fort Lauderdale CF moves into seventh place in the League One standings, tied on points with sixth-place FC Tucson and fifth-place Forward Madison FC.
