Justin Rennicks scores in second consecutive match to see Revs II past OCB

Forward Justin Rennicks scored minutes into the second half to help New England Revolution II defeat Orlando City B 1-0 Saturday morning at Osceola County Stadium.

New England’s Orlando Sinclair nearly gave the visitors an early lead, getting on the end of Connor Presley's cross in the 9th minute but his first-time effort trickled wide of the target.

Moises Tablante narrowly missed the target at the other end 10 minutes later after a clever stepover saw him create space for a shot from 15 yards out.

Wilfredo Rivera forced New England’s Joe Rice into a save moments later, latching on to the end of Jonathan Rosales’ deep cross to the back post before striking a low shot on frame.

Sinclair and Presley connected again just before the halftime break, with Presley finding Sinclair with a cutback near the penalty spot. Sinclair took a touch to settle himself before striking a low shot on frame, but Austin Aviza got down quickly to get his left hand to the shot and send the two sides into the break tied at zero.

Rennicks found the breakthrough less than a minute into the second half, showing good composure to nod Sinclair’s first-time ball back across the frame past Aviza to score his second goal in two matches.

Rennicks nearly doubled his tally minutes later, breaking through on goal after a clever pass from Sinclair to spark a New England counterattack. The 21-year-old striker did well to hold off two defenders on his way towards goal, but his shot was close enough to Aviza that the Orlando goalkeeper was able to get a foot to it and keep the deficit at one goal.

Wilfredo Rivera tested Rice again in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper was equal to the shot and made the save from close range. Rivera’s shot was the last Orlando City B effort to hit the target in the match and New England secured its third clean sheet of the season.

The Revolution II continued to test Aviza in the final stretch of the match with Damian Rivera, Thigao Mendoca and Mayele Malango all putting shots on frame in second half stoppage time.

Despite Aviza making seven saves in the match, Orlando City B lost its third consecutive match. With the win, New England moves into ninth place in the League One standings.
