Center back joins league leaders for last third of the regular season

Powell joins Triumph SC after a four-year career at UCLA.

Greenville Triumph SC has signed defender Matthew Powell for the remainder of the 2020 season, the club announced Friday. The former UCLA Bruin is available for selection ahead of the club’s match against second-place Chattanooga Red Wolves SC Saturday afternoon at CHI Memorial Stadium.

Powell joins Triumph SC after completing a four-year career at UCLA. During his time as a Bruin, Powell appeared in 72 matches, starting all but one and tallying six goals and five assists. The Castro Valley, California native served as team captain during his senior season and collected several all conference honors during his collegiate career.

Powell, who featured primarily as a center back for the Bruins, joins a Greenville Triumph side that leads the league in goals per game average and clean sheets. The 6-foot-1 defender has been training with the club in recent days and is available for Saturday’s top of the table clash.
