Los Buhos score two unanswered goals to remain unbeaten

Union Omaha overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with South Georgia Tormenta FC Friday night at Erk Russell Park and preserve its unbeaten start to the 2020 regular season.

Tormenta FC started on the front foot, forcing the visitors into a turnover in their defensive half within the first quarter of an hour. Marco Micaletto picked up a loose pass out of the back and played Luca Mayr in on goal with a clever through pass. Mayr slotted a first-time shot past Rashid Nuhu to give the South Georgia side an early lead.

Ten minutes later, Tormenta FC made Omaha pay for another turnover, this time at midfield. Lucas Coutinho played Jad Arslan through on goal after Tyler David was dispossessed near the midfield stripe. Arslan dribbled confidently at goal before striking a shot off the post. Nuhu knocked the rebound in off his shin to give the hosts a two-goal lead inside of 25 minutes.

With Omaha pressing for a goal to half the deficit, Illal Osumanu turned Sebastian Contreras’ in-swinging corner goal-wards, but Pablo Jara showed quick reactions to keep out the headed effort.

Minutes later, Jara came up big again, denying David’s flicked header from six yards out to preserve the two-goal lead.

Jara was forced into another save three minutes into the second half, getting down quickly to deny Evan Conway’s strike from 18 yards out after he was played through on goal.

Omaha finally broke through in the 70th minute when Elma N’For nodded the ball past Jara after a goal-mouth scramble following another Contreras in-swinging corner kick.

Eleven minutes later, Los Buhos drew themselves level through a fantastic individual effort from Ferrety Sousa. Sousa received a pass on the right flank, beat his defender on the dribble, and curled an inch-perfect shot past Jara from 30 yards out to level the score.

Juan Mare had a chance to steal three road points for Omaha in the 94th minute after Devin Boyce played him through on goal in transition, but Jara got fingers to Mare’s shot and kept it out to earn a point for Tormenta FC.

With the draw, Omaha remains in second place and moves within three points of league-leading Greenville Triumph SC with a game in hand, while Tormenta FC sits in sixth place, nine points off the league leaders.
