Chattanooga Red Wolves SC has signed forward Patrick Okonkwo for the remainder of the 2020 season, the club announced Thursday afternoon.

Okonkwo joins the Red Wolves after spending the previous four years in the Atlanta United organization. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Okonkwo was a member of the Atlanta United Academy before signing as a Homegrown Player in 2017. Although he never played a match for the Major League Soccer side, Okonkwo scored seven goals across 39 appearances for both ATL UTD 2 and the Charleston Battery in the USL Championship.

“First I want to say thank you to Sean McDaniel and Coach Jimmy for this amazing opportunity to learn and improve my game again,” Okonkwo said. “This organization has shown me how to appreciate being on a team, understanding that it’s never just about you, that you’re never alone. This’s my new family, I’m grateful to be among a great group of guys who are willing to fight, and push each other to be great on and off the field.”

Okonkwo joins Chattanooga as the club looks to make a move up the table. A 2-1 win over New England Revolution II last night moved the Red Wolves into fourth place in the League One table.

“Patrick’s a great late season addition for us beyond what he brings to the field,” says McDaniel. “We love his passion, energy and commitment to the team. We have high hopes for his time here in Chattanooga.”

Okonkwo is available for selection for Chattanooga’s match against the Richmond Kickers this Saturday at CHI Memorial Stadium.
