Tucson shot to a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes, but were pegged back by a stoppage time Richmond goal

TUCSON, Ariz. - A high-flying first 15 minutes punctuated by Shak Adams' fourth goal in as many games were offset by an Emiliano Terzaghi penalty and a stoppage time equalizer from Victor Falck, as FC Tucson and the Richmond Kickers played to an entertaining 2-2 draw at Kino Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Tucson came roaring out of the gates in its first home match since August 8. Roberto Alarcon smartly dispatched a penalty kick in the 10th minute, and Adams latched on to a long pass from Tucson goalkeeper Carlos Merancio to add a second goal five minutes later.

Richmond recovered from its reeling start and got back into the game before the break with a penalty of its own. Argentine striker Terzaghi handled the spot kick responsibility, converting it for his league-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Kickers then nearly found an equalizer, but Terzaghi was denied a quick-fire brace by a fantastic save from Merancio.

An open first half gave way to a stingy second, as Tucson solidified its defensive base to protect the lead but still looked threatening when breaking forward quickly. Merancio made another great stop against Terzaghi in the closing stages, but neither he nor an excellent goal line clearance by Tucson defender Esteban Calvo were able to prevent Richmond from finding the equalizer in the end.

On the ensuing corner kick after Calvo's last-gasp clearance, Richmond's Ryley Kraft whipped in an accurate cross which Falck nodded in to extend the Kickers' unbeaten streak to six games and ensure they'd take a point back to Virginia.

Though Tucson failed to hold on to the win, it was an encouraging performance in just the team's second home game of the season. With four of its next five games at Kino Sports Complex, Tucson Head Coach John Galas will be looking at his team's upcoming slate as a major chance to move up the table.

The draw moves Richmond within five points of leaders Greenville Triumph SC, and the Kickers still have two games in hand on the Triumph. They will look to further reduce that gap next week when they head to Chattanooga to face Red Wolves SC.
