Triumph SC snapped a two-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory over South Georgia

STATESBORO, Ga. - The dynamic duo of Lachlan McLean and Alex Morrell both scored and assisted on each other's goals, as Greenville Triumph SC recovered from back-to-back losses to defeat South Georgia Tormenta FC on Friday night at Erk Russell Park.

McLean got Greenville off to a flying start after just 13 minutes. A brilliant ball by Morrell split Tormenta's defensive line, and McLean's pinpoint finish beat Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara before he could close the angle.

McLean and Morrell then reversed roles for Triumph SC's second goal. McLean hustled to prevent the ball from going over the end line and played it back across the face of goal. The pass was on a platter for Morrell, who smashed it home from close range.

Tormenta grew into the game throughout the second half, and a spectacular long-range strike from Jad Arslan gave the South Georgia side a lifeline with 12 minutes to play. But Greenville survived some nervous moments in the closing stages, and saw out the 2-1 result to snap a two-game losing skid.

The win restores Greenville's six-point cushion atop the League One table, though Triumph SC has played three more games than the second-place Richmond Kickers. Tormenta FC now sit 10 points back of Greenville, and will need to put together a winning run to give themselves a shot at competing in the League One Final.

Both teams return to action at home next weekend, with Tormenta welcoming Union Omaha and Greenville playing host to Forward Madison.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • GVL (36'): Morrell (second), assisted by McLean.
