Chrstian Molina’s second-half goal sees Los Buhos past FCT

Union Omaha remains the only unbeaten side in League One after defeating FC Tucson 2-1 Saturday night at Werner Park.

Prior to the opening whistle, players from both sides stood with arms locked, united against racism, and in support of equality, diversity and compassion.

Union Omaha opened the scoring 15 minutes into the match when Devin Boyce cleverly curled a first-time volley with the outside of his right boot, beating goalkeeper Carlos Merancio at his far post.

Tucson’s Shak Adams equalized with a curler of his own just after the half hour mark. Adams squared up to his defender near the left corner of the 18-yard box before cuttingion on his right foot and picking out the bottom corner of Sam Howard’s goal.

Los Buhos had a chance to put themselves back in front from an indirect kick at the top of the six-yard box after Merancio handled Niall Logue’s back pass five minutes into the second half. Ethan Vanacore-Decker struck the ball on frame after a touch from Sebastian Contrares, but Merancio closed quickly and made the save.

Tucson’s Derrick Silva nearly broke the deadlock with a well struck shot from distance that fizzed just past Howard’s right post in the 53rd minute.

Howard made an impressive save in the 76th minute to keep the score level, coming off his line quickly to deny Azaad Liadi after the Tucson forward showed good strength to turn his defender and put a shot on frame from eight yards out.

Minutes later, Vanacore-Decker led an Omaha counter, finding Chrstian Molina with a through ball down the right flank. Molina ran onto the pass and struck a first-time a shot across his body, beating Merancio at his far post to give Los Buhos the lead. Molina’s first goal of the season was enough to clinch the three points at home for Omaha.

With the win, Union remains in third place in the League One standings, one point behind the Richmond Kickers and four points behind the league-leaders Greenville Triumph SC. After suffering a second defeat at the hands of Omaha this season, FCT sits in eighth place tied with North Texas SC on points.
