The Featherstone Flamingos and The Flock, two of Forward Madison FC’s official supporters’ groups, have launched a fundraising effort benefiting Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC). The Flock is currently matching donations up to $200 and all funds will be donated to BLOC’s C3 Education Fund.
BLOC is a nonprofit organization working to ensure a high quality of life for members of the Black community in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin. The organization is committed to championing issues that directly impact Black and Brown communities and leading the conversations surrounding those issues.
The fundraiser was launched following the decision of the USL, Forward Madison, its players, supporters, and staff to postpone the club’s match this Sunday in an effort to bring greater attention to the fight against racial injustice and systemic oppression. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Forward Madison is playing its home matches in Milwaukee, just 45 minutes north of Kenosha, where the tragic shooting of Jacob Blake occurred last weekend.
The fundraising effort has already raised more than $3,500 and will continue through Sunday, August 30. To donate, visit blcobybloc.org/donate. To have your donation matched by The Flock, reply to the Featherstone Flamingos’ Tweet announcing the fundraiser with a screenshot of your donation receipt or post the screenshot independently and tag @fwdflock in the Tweet.
