South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed defender Curtis Thorn for the 2020 season, the club announced Thursday morning. Thorn is available for selection ahead of Tormenta FC’s match at Orlando City B on Friday night.

To complete the signing, the club has acquired an additional international spot from Forward Madison FC. Per club policy, the terms of the transaction with Madison were not disclosed.

“Curtis is another top player we’ve plucked from our USL League Two environment,” Tormenta FC Head Coach John Miglarese said. “He performed exceptionally well during the 2019 season and was due to play for Tormenta FC 2 this summer, but COVID-19 got in the way. He has trained with us all summer and has shown he is more than ready for the jump to USL League One. I expect him to feature regularly over the coming months.”

Thorn played 16 matches for Tormenta FC 2 in USL League Two last summer, helping the club win its second Deep South Division title and first Southern Conference title. The 6-foot-1 defender led a Tormenta FC 2 defense that kept nine clean sheets and conceded just 11 goals in 14 regular season matches.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign my first professional deal,” Thorn said. “I honestly can’t think of a better group of lads to start my journey with.”

Thorn played two seasons of collegiate soccer at Nova Southeastern University, where he appeared in 33 matches and earned several all-conference and all-area honors. Prior to that, he attended Solent University in England where he was named Player of the Year twice.
