USL League One Power Rankings – Week 6

By Staff, 08/24/20, 2:45PM EDT

Richmond’s three-game winning streak sets up top two matchup this weekend

TAMPA, Fla. – Greenville Triumph SC still rules the roost in the regular standings and Power Rankings after its fifth win in six games to start the season, but on Saturday it might get its best test yet of the campaign as it visits the Richmond Kickers, now sitting in second place in the league standings and the Power Rankings as well.

The Kickers have done pretty much everything right since losing their opening game of the season to Greenville, and are now on a three-game winning streak after Friday’s road success against the New England Revolution II.

That run of form matches a three-game winning streak that Richmond put together last season, but to find the last time the Kickers recorded a four-game winning run we have go back to 2016, when the Kickers reeled off six consecutive victories between July 8 and August 6 that included a win against eventual USL Championship Final winner the New York Red Bulls II.

It should be no coincidence that was also the last season the Kickers reached the postseason, so if you’re looking for a good omen, Kickers fans, a win on Saturday night at City Stadium would be just that.

Here’s how everything else looks this week. As always, feel free to come and yell at me on Twitter (@NJEMurray).

Biggest Movers

1 Greenville Triumph SC
Week 7: @NE, @RIC

Last Week: 1
Another week, another win, another new name on the scoresheet, and Noah Pilato’s finish to send Greenville past Fort Lauderdale was absolutely tremendous. He’s the fifth different player to score for Triumph SC in six games.
2 Richmond Kickers
Week 7: GVL
Last Week: 3
Three wins in a row has set up a perfect time for a rematch with Greenville as the Kickers take to City Stadium looking to avenge their lone defeat of the season.
3 Union Omaha
Week 7: TUC
Last Week: 2
Omaha’s still undefeated, but in this abbreviated season draws aren’t going to cut it. Got to get back in that win column on Saturday as Tucson comes to visit.
4 Forward Madison FC
Week 7: NTX
Last Week: 6
Four points from two games over the past week – including another rousing home victory against Orlando City B – has put the Flamingos right back into the playoff picture after their slow start.
5 Fort Lauderdale CF
Week 7: --
Last Week: 7
Losing on a spectacular finish on the road to the league-leaders is nothing to feel bad about, and the midweek victory against North Texas that preceded it was another fine performance for FTLCF.
6 South Georgia Tormenta FC
Week 7: @ORL
Last Week: 11
The visitors had to hold off all kinds of first-half pressure in Chattanooga, but came back with a great second-half display of its own to earn a crucial road victory and snap a three-game losing streak.
7 FC Tucson
Week 7: @OMA
Last Week: 10
No, Orlando City B didn’t look what you might call “good” in the past week, but Tucson will get some serious confidence from going on the road and hanging four goals up as it moves forward.
8 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
Week 7: NE
Last Week: 4
Two consecutive defeats have made the Red Wolves’ path to the USL League One Final that much more treacherous. They’re going to need to capitalize on chances far better to get back into the playoff race.
9 North Texas SC
Week 7: @MAD
Last Week: 5
Remember when we suggested you tighten up defensively last week? Conceding five more goals in a draw and a defeat was not what we had in mind. NTSC is now conceding an average of two goals per game.
10 New England Revolution II
Week 7: GVL, @CHA
Last Week: 9
If not for the woodwork, the Revolution II could have suffered an even heavier defeat to Richmond, and they’re still looking for their first victory.
11 Orlando City B
Week 7: TRM
Last Week: 8
OCB got our hopes up for a moment before conceding seven goals in back-to-back defeats over the past week. Pretty disappointing, really.
