RICHMOND, Va. – (Thursday, August 20, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers (2-1-1) are on the road this Friday night, making their first trip to Gillette Stadium to take on New England Revolution II (0-2-1). Kickoff for this match is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be available live on WTVR CBS 6.3 (Comcast 206, Verizon FiOS 466) and streaming on ESPN+

This will be the first meeting between the Kickers and Revolution II. Both clubs will meet again October 3 at City Stadium. While the Kickers have not played the second team, Richmond has gone up against the MLS side on two occasions, both of which coming in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Revs would get the better of the Kickers in 2014 (2-3) and in 2008 (0-3).

Richmond is coming off their second-straight victory last Saturday night, topping FC Tucson 2-1. Defender Ivan Magalhães found the back of the net for the first time in his Kickers career in the seventh minute when Mutaya Mwape dropped in a perfectly placed free kick. Three minutes before halftime, Emilano Terzaghi scored his third goal in four matches to double the Richmond lead. The Kickers shutout streak came to an end at 282 minutes when Tucson pulled back a goal in the 82nd minute. Richmond is now unbeaten in three matches.

New England battled the 2019 champions North Texas SC on the road to a wild 3-3 draw at Globe Life Park last Saturday night. North Texas jumped ahead just after four minutes from Thomas Roberts. Nicolas Firmino leveled the score in the 16th minute for Revolution II. Ronaldo Damus made it 2-1 as North Texas took that lead into halftime. Isaac Angking bagged a brace in the second half to put the visitors ahead. The home side would grab a goal in stoppage time to salvage the point at home.

The Kickers come back home to City Stadium next Saturday night, August 29 as they host the league leaders Greenville Triumph SC at 6:30 p.m. This match will be live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and streaming on ESPN+. A limited number of tickets are available now at RichmondKickers.com/Tickets

Midfielder Mutaya Mwape (#10) set up the chance for Magalhães on a free kick, picking up his first assist of the season. Midfielder Luke Pavone (#14) has started the last two matches for the Kickers, playing triple the amount of minutes already than he did a season prior. A familiar face to Kickers fans, goalkeeper Joe Rice (#51) has played every minute of the first three matches for Revolution II. Through those three matches, Rice has recorded 13 saves and a clean sheet against Union Omaha in the season opener. Reunited with Rice after playing at Virginia Commonwealth University together, defender Ryo Shimazaki (#31) has made two appearances for New England in his first professional season. Drafted 59th overall by Columbus Crew SC in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, Shimazaki joined Revolution II in January and made his professional debut coming off the bench in the draw with Omaha. A homegrown signing for the MLS side, Angking joins Revolution II after playing just 37 minutes with the first team and then had a loan spell with USL Championship side Charlotte Independence in 2019.
