Two second half goals see Los Buhos past FCT

Union Omaha won its second consecutive match and captured its first road win in club history Saturday night, defeating FC Tucson 2-1 at Kino Sports Complex.

Omaha were the better side throughout the majority of the match and started on the front foot, creating two quality chances in the opening ten minutes. John Scearce forced Carlos Merancio Valdez into a full stretch save minutes before Ethan Vanacore Decker rounded the goalkeeper but only found the side netting with his shot.

Shak Adams fired just wide for FC Tucson in the 38th minute, cutting in on his left foot and curling a shot that beat Omaha goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu but beat the far post as well.

Elma N’For found Vanacore Decker free inside the six-yard box with an inswinging cross in first half stoppage time, but the striker’s header was right at Merancio Valdez and the sides went into the break scoreless.

Omaha broke the deadlock minutes into the second half as Lucas Hauswirth’s shot from just outside the penalty area took a nasty deflection off an FC Tucson defender and beat Merancio Valdez at the near post.

Vanacore Decker doubled the lead ten minutes later, picking up a deflected shot and finishing past Merancio Valdez from a tight angle.

Erik Virgen gave FCT a glimmer of hope in the 93rd minute, striking a half volley past Nuhu from the top of the 18-yard box after a failed clearance from a Union Omaha defender, but the late goal wasn’t enough and Tucson suffered its second consecutive one-goal defeat.

The win gives Los Buhos sole possession of second place in the League One standings, while FC Tucson drops to ninth, tied on points with Fort Lauderdale CF and Orlando City B.
