Early goal lifts Kickers over Forward Madison in Henny Derby

Emiliano Terzaghi’s 9th minute goal was enough as the Richmond Kickers defeated Forward Madison FC 1-0 Saturday night at City Stadium to earn the club’s first win of the 2020 season.

Terzaghi utilized a smart turn at the top of the 18-yard box to create space before striking a low shot that found the bottom left corner of Philipp Marceta’s goal to score his second of the season.

Jamael Cox came close to equalizing for Madison in the 33rd minute, running on to a long ball out of the back and hitting a first time shot that forced Akira Fitzgerald to make a quick save with his left foot.

Matt Bolduc nearly doubled the hosts’ advantage midway into the second half, ringing a shot off the woodwork that fell kindly to Terzaghi, but the Argintinian striker couldn’t convert the rebound.

Madison’s Brandon Eaton flicked a shot towards goal after Fitzgerald mishandled a corner kick in second half stoppage time, but Scott Thomsen cleared the effort off the line to preserve the Kickers’ second consecutive clean sheet.

With the win, Richmond moves to fifth place in the League One table after three matches; while Madison, still winless on the year, sits in ninth.
