Chattanooga tops Tucson in inaugural match at new stadium

Greg Hurst scored the only goal as Chattanooga Red Wolves SC won its inaugural match at CHI Memorial Stadium, defeating FC Tucson 1-0.

Hurst rifled home his third goal of the season in the 53rd minute, collecting a failed clearance and beating Tucson goalkeeper Shak Adams at the near post.

FCT had a chance to equalize after substitute Daryl Longdon earned a penalty moments after entering the match. Eliverton found Longdon’s diagonal run with a bent ball between the right back and the center back and the forward took a touch around goalkeeper Alex Mangels, drawing him into the foul to earn the penalty. Josh Coan stepped up to the spot and had his penalty saved as Mangels dove to his right and held onto the shot.

Amirgy Pineda came close to adding a second for the Red Wolves in the 69th minute but dragged his shot wide from the top of the penalty area.

In the final play of the match, Coan chipped a cross to the back post finding Logue unmarked, but the Irishman’s header fell straight to Mangels, securing the first three points of the season for Chattanooga.

With the win the Red Wolves temporarily move into second place in the standings, while FCT sits in fourth.
