Scored opening goal in Triumph SC’s season-opening victory against Fort Lauderdale

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Tuesday that Greenville Triumph SC forward Alex Morrell had been named the League One Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2020 season.

Morrell made an immediate impact in his debut for the 2019 League One Finalist, scoring the opening goal and tallying an assist in a 2-0 victory on the road against Fort Lauderdale CF on Saturday night. Morrell has now scored the opening goal of the League One season in the league’s first two years, having also scored the first goal in league history for South Georgia Tormenta FC in 2019 against his current club.

The 2020 League One season kicks off Week 2 of the campaign this Saturday as Greenville plays host to the Richmond Kickers in its home opener at Legacy Early College. Other games in the five-game slate include the opening game of North Texas SC’s title defense at home to Forward Madison FC at Globe Life Park, and the debut of Union Omaha and the New England Revolution II, with the expansion sides set to meet at Gillette Stadium.

Elsewhere, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC are set to square off at Erk Russell Park, while Fort Lauderdale CF will try to rebound as it plays host to FC Tucson at Inter Miami CF Stadium.
