Only one game in, but we’ve got a change at the top after Greenville’s strong showing

One game in, and… well we’ve made a change to our top team in the USL League One Power Rankings.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. How can we bump North Texas down without the defending champion having played a game yet? And you’d be perfectly reasonable in thinking that. But this isn’t the time for reason. This is the time for action.

And that means the lone team with points in the League One standings gets to be No. 1 for now. As always, feel free to come and yell at me on Twitter (@NJEMurray).

Summary

1 Greenville Triumph SC
(1-0-0)
Week 2: RIC
1
Last Week: 2
Alex Morrell really has a thing for scoring in the first game of the season, doesn’t he? That’s two consecutive years for Greenville’s Man of the Match in Fort Lauderdale.
2 North Texas SC
(0-0-0)
Week 2: MAD
1
Last Week: 1
After Greenville’s opening salvo, North Texas gets to answer back with a great test against Forward Madison FC on Saturday night as it kicks off at new home Globe Life Park.
3 Forward Madison FC
(0-0-0)
Week 2: @NTX

Last Week: 3
The Flamingos could have their hands full with North Texas on Saturday, but I’m expecting them to go in and put up a solid showing as they look to turn the tables after last year’s playoff defeat.
4 Union Omaha
(0-0-0)
Week 2: @NE

Last Week: 4
Time to shine, Buhos. A visit to the New England Revolution II on Saturday is the first meeting between to of our three expansion sides this year.
5 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(0-0-0)
Week 2: @TRM

Last Week: 5
The Red Wolves were great at home last season, not so much on the road. We’ll see if they can start to change that in 2020 on Saturday against Tormenta FC.
6 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(0-0-0)
Week 2: CHT

Last Week: 6
South Georgia got out to a blazing start last season. If it can do so again, starting against the Red Wolves on Saturday, it would be a great leg-up on the competition for a place in the League One Final.
7 Richmond Kickers
(0-0-0)
Week 2: @GVL

Last Week: 7
The Kickers haven’t won their opening game of the season since 2017, and visiting a Greenville Triumph SC side with a win already under its belt will be a challenging proposition.
8 FC Tucson
(0-0-0)
Week 2: @FTL

Last Week: 8
Tucson was given a blueprint on how to take victory against Fort Lauderdale CF by Greenville. Let’s see if they can replicate it.
9 New England Revolution II
(0-0-0)
Week 2: OMA

Last Week: 9
The Revolution II’s first season kicks off with a visit from fellow expansion side Union Omaha on Saturday. We’ll see which one’s house is made of bricks soon enough.
10 Fort Lauderdale CF
(0-1-0)
Week 2: TUC

Last Week: 10
Even at home, a game against one of last season’s finalists was going to be a tricky introduction. Let’s just hope FTLCF doesn’t replicate the start its Major League Soccer counterpart has...
11 Orlando City B
(0-0-0)
Week 2: --

Last Week: 11
Yes, Fort Lauderdale lost its opener. But I still want to see what Orlando’s going to offer before I make the Florida sides switch places.
