Morrell records goal, assist as Triumph win first match at Inter Miami CF Stadium

Greenville Triumph SC earned the first three points of the 2020 season with a comfortable 2-0 win over League One newcomers Fort Lauderdale CF in the inaugural match at Inter Miami CF Stadium.

The home side had the game's first chace as Fort Lauderdale's Edison Azcona curled a shot towards goal, forcing Dallas Jaye into a full-stretch save to his left. Ricky Lopez-Espin put the rebound on frame from five yards out, but Jaye was equal to it.

Alex Morrell collected Aaron Walker's crossfield pass and calmly finished past goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira in stoppage time of the first half to give Greenville the lead before the break.

Morrell followed up his goal with an assist two minutes into the second half, curling a ball in behind Fort Laudredale's backs from the right flank. Jake Keegan dipped to head the cross at the near post, beating Castanheira to score in his first appearance since being sidelined with an injury last August.

Greenville sits atop the League One table after winning only match of the opening weekend, while Fort Lauderdale moves to 11th. Jaye, the reigning Goalkeeper of the Year, secured his first clean sheet of the season after recording 13 in 2019.

Scoring Summary

45+4' Morrell (first) assisted by Walker
