Tucson’s Wieland Sweeps Top Awards for USL eCup: Rocket League Edition

Claims Golden Car, joined by Omaha’s Mims, SAFC’s Richards on podium after 32 team-tournament

TAMPA, Fla. – FC Tucson’s Trent Wieland claimed three of the five awards announced by the United Soccer League on Sunday following the completion of the USL eCup: Rocket League Edition on Saturday night on ESPN3.

a 2019 Rocket League College National Champion with the University of Arizona – claimed the Golden Car for the tournament’s best player after earning the eCup with a 4-0 victory against Union Omaha’s Wesley Mims in the tournament’s final. Wieland also claimed the Golden Wheel with 249 total goals over the tournament, and the Golden Bumper with 58 saves over the course of the event.

Mims claimed the Silver Car as the tournament’s runner-up, having shone throughout the tournament since taking the sticks for the expansion League One side Union Omaha before its second game in the tournament. With Mims on the controls, Los Buhos didn’t drop a game in five successful series before falling to Tucson in the Final, and posted 159 goals throughout the tournament.


San Antonio FC
Josh Richards

San Antonio FC’s Josh Richards earned the eCup’s Bronze car after taking third place in the tournament with a 3-0 victory against Tacoma Defiance’s Josh Atencio in the third-place playoff. Richards advanced to the Semifinals in impressive fashion before falling to Mims, and finished the tournament with 144 goals, 38 saves and more than 25,000 points accumulated across his seven contests.
