It’s FC Tucson vs. Union Omaha for the title, which one will come out on top on Saturday night?

The Final of the inaugual USL eCup: Rocket League Edition is an all-USL League One affair, with FC Tucson set to face Union Omaha on Saturday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN3 to crown the champion. Both sides have been perfect in their six games to this point, and sit 1-2 in goals scored as well, meaning we could be in for a spectacular conclusion to the month-long event.

The Breakdown: The road to the USL eCup Final has been paved with goals for both Union Omaha and FC Tucson, and each player racked up more than 30 goals once again in advancing from Thursday night’s Semifinals. For Omaha, the numbers have ticked up exponentially since Wesley Mims was installed on the sticks ahead of the club’s second group stage game, following on from a solid win by Jake Mickelson to kick off the tournament. Mims has accounted for 149 of Los Buhos’ 159 goals, an average of almost 30 goals per contest, and has yet to drop a game in any of the five series he’s played.

That record will certainly be tested by FC Tucson’s Trent Wieland, who as the captain of the University of Arizona’s Rocket League College National Champion side entered the USL eCup as favorite. Wieland has averaged 35.5 goals per contest in reaching the Final, but almost as impressive as his scoring has been his defensive work, which came to the fore in his Semifinal win against Tacoma Defiance’s Josh Atencio. Defeated in a game for the first time in the tournament, Wieland recorded 19 saves across his four-game victory to almost double it total for the tournament at 41 – currently the most by any player in the event. That balance at both ends and Wieland’s experience in championship matches will keep him as the favorite going in, but it should prove a compelling contest over the best of seven games given the firepower on display.
