GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Triumph SC forward Jake Keegan likens it to an extension of the offseason.

As he, his teammates and Triumph SC’s staff and loyal fans wait for official word on when the 2020 USL League One season is going to kick off while staying safe during the current COVID-19 pandemic, though, the work to remain sharp for when the season finally begins continues for last year’s League One Finalists.

“We sit, we wait,” 2019 League One Goalkeeper of the Year Dallas Jaye told WYFF’s Marc Whiteman. “But the sitting and waiting doesn't mean we're not putting in the work. It involves some creativity. Our strength coach put together a workout program that involves all things that can be done in a household or right outside. Head Coach John Harkes has assigned games from last season to review and keep that mental side of the game going, where you're staying fresh.”

Greenville would have been preparing this week for a showdown with regional rival South Georgia Tormenta FC. Instead, both are taking part in the current USL eCup, with Triumph SC kicking off its tournament group stage on Friday against fellow League One side FC Tucson while aiming to raise money for the United Way of Greenville County.

While the players are training in isolation under the watchful eye of high performance coach Ryan McKie due to the training moratorium that on Thursday was extended until at least April 19, the club and particularly Head Coach John Harkes are working to make sure everyone stays as connected as possible.

“Coach Harkes, he's in frequent contact with all the players,” Jaye told Whiteman. “Just checking in on us, make sure mentally we're doing OK and our families are doing alright.

“I think everyone is looking forward to the days where people get to come back together and bond and enjoy something like soccer. It's gonna make it all the more sweet when we are able to do it. I'm hoping it’s shades of last year with our home opener, where we sold out this incredible stadium. Hopefully this year, when we do get to go, it'll be that, but even better because of everything we've had to deal with to get to that point.”
