American soccer community delivers important message in efforts to fight against COVID-19

CHICAGO – U.S. Soccer launched the “BEND THE CURVE. STAY AT HOME” campaign on Wednesday, supporting and emphasizing what medical experts advise is the most important way to combat the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country.

With the full support of the United Soccer League, the campaign is infused with themes that harness the passion, dedication and commitment of the soccer community to help spread awareness of this critical message.

“Our goal with the “BEND THE CURVE. STAY AT HOME.” campaign is to reinforce to the soccer community that the single most important message to help us get through these challenging times is to make sure people STAY AT HOME to bend, and eventually, flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases,” said U.S. Soccer Chief Medical Officer Dr. George Chiampas. “We hope everyone in our U.S. Soccer family will join us in sharing this incredibly important message to help keep each other healthy and save lives during this crisis.”

The “BEND THE CURVE. STAY AT HOME.” campaign will see U.S. Soccer share graphics and video highlights from memorable goals and free kicks on all of its social media accounts. The Federation will also be partnering with key stakeholders across the soccer community, including current and former U.S. players, to amplify the message and deliver the real meaning to the phrase “One Nation. One Team.”

The USL and its teams are also doing their part, having announced on Wednesday that clubs from across the Championship will be donating merchandise proceeds during the month of April to local charities. In addition, the 32 teams from the Championship and League One competing in the USL eCup: Rocket League Edition, which kicked off on Wednesday afternoon on ESPN Digital Platforms, are also raising money on behalf on local charities to help relief efforts in their communities. You can find a full list of all the great organizations benefitting from the event here.

This weekend will also see the launch of a new online series, Coffee at Home, where USL host Kelsi Steele and others speak with interesting people from around the USL about their life, soccer, and their experiences at home during the COVID-19 crises.
