North Texas SC has signed defender Lamar Batista from Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC, the club announced Friday. Batista joins the reigning USL League One Title-winners on a one-year contract with an option for the 2021 season.

In 2019, Batista played 18 matches for FC Tucson and two matches for Phoenix Rising FC while on loan from LAFC in 2019. Prior to signing with LAFC, Batista played 46 matches, scored one goal, and tallied one assist in two seasons with Portland Timbers 2 in USL Championship. During his time with Timbers 2, Batista was named No. 8 on the USL’s 20 Under 20 list.

Batista played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara, where he appeared in 18 matches and earned Big West All-Freshman honors.

North Texas SC opens its season on the road against South Georgia Tormenta FC. The two sides will square off at Erk Russell Park on Saturday, March 28.
