FRISCO, Texas – Two of the key figures in North Texas Soccer Club’s double-winning season will be back for its title defense.

NTSC announced on Wednesday it had exercised the contract options on 2019 League One Most Valuable Player Arturo Rodriguez and forward Ronaldo Damus, as well as that of midfielder Oscar Romero, as the club made its first roster moves of the offseason.

Rodriguez claimed League One MVP and Young Player of the Year honors in 2019 as he led the league with 10 assists and scored eight goals over the course of the campaign. Rodriguez’s tally lifted NTSC to a 1-0 victory against Greenville Triumph SC in the 2019 League One Final, capping a remarkable first professional season for the 20-year-old.

Damus earned the League One Golden Boot with 16 goals in the regular season as he led the league’s best attack throughout the season. Named to the League One All-League First Team, Damus was also a finalist for the Young Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards alongside Rodriguez and earned selection to the Haiti National Team as his form for NTSC caught the eye of national team selectors.

In addition, North Texas announced it had declined 2020 contract options for defenders Cesar Murillo and Hector Montalvo, midfielders Bicou Bissainthe and Alfusainey Jatta, and forward Richard Danso. Additionally, goalkeeper Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes is out of contract.

The seven North Texas SC players currently under contract for the 2020 season: Imanol Almaguer, Carlos Avilez, Ronaldo Damus, Brecc Evans, Arturo Rodriguez, David Rodriguez and Oscar Romero.
