All-League defender will be integral to Madison's success in 2020
Forward Madison FC has re-signed Christian Diaz for the 2020 season, the club announced Monday. Diaz was named to the All-League First Team and selected as a finalist for USL League One Defender of the Year following his impressive 2019 season.
“It feels great to re-sign,” Díaz said. “I have a lot of love for the people here, so I’m excited to be back. We want to be champions next year and I’m looking forward to lifting the trophy.”
Diaz played 27 matches for FMFC in 2019, accumulating 2,320 minutes. The 28-year old fullback led his side in interceptions (56), recoveries (174), and tackles won (53), proving an integral piece of a defensive unit that conceded just 26 goals in 28 regular season matches.
“Christian is a leader both on and off the field,” said Forward Madison Head Coach Daryl Shore. “[To] have a player of his caliber on our roster is a testament to what our organization is doing to have the best possible players on our team in 2020.”
