Two-way standout recorded six goals, six assists while leading defensive categories

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Tuesday that South Georgia Tormenta FC fullback Conner Antley has been voted the 2019 League One Defender of the Year. Moving into the professional ranks after featuring for Tormenta FC in USL League Two during the 2018 season, Antley put up impressive numbers at both ends of the field to claim the award.

Antley received 52 percent of the vote to earn the award, with Greenville Triumph SC fullback Tyler Polak finishing second on 30 percent and Forward Madison FC fullback Christian Diaz finishing third on 18 percent.

“This is a big accomplishment for me,” said Antley. “It was one of my goals coming into this season, to be the best defender in the league. Tyler and Christian are two guys who played great this past year, and any one of us could have been awarded this, so to even be nominated is a huge honor for me.”

In his rookie season, Antley recorded six goals – tied for the league-lead among defenders – and six assists but also put in strong work defensively. His 201 recoveries were the most by an outfield player in League One, while he ranked third in the league winning 208 duels, posting a success rate of 56.2 percent. Antley also finished tied for third among defenders with 49 interceptions and notched 34 chances created.

One of 11 players that made the transition from League Two to the professional ranks with Tormenta FC, Antley paid tribute to his teammates for their role in helping him claim the award.

“I think there are a few things I could attribute my success to this past season,” said Antley. “Of course, my coaches for challenging and believing in me, but we had a special group of players this year, so I think my teammates are most responsible for helping me achieve this award.”

The 2019 USL League One Awards were voted on by team management. Voting was conducted following the conclusion of the 2019 League One regular season.
