TAMPA, Fla. – Greenville Triumph SC midfielder Carlos Gomez has been voted USL League One’s Player of the Month for September & October after recording five goals and 18 chances created in six appearances to help his side advance to the 2019 USL League One Playoffs.
With leading scorer Jake Keegan sidelined with a season-ending injury, Gomez helped pick up the slack for Triumph SC’s attack. A hat trick in the club’s 4-0 win against FC Tucson on September 13 helped get Greenville’s playoff push back on track, and Gomez also found the net the following outing in a 3-1 win against Toronto FC II.
The central midfielder also played an active two-way role over the final six games of the regular season for Triumph SC, completing 128 of 159 passes and 12 of 14 dribbles, winning 35 of 63 duels and recording 34 recoveries over the final stretch of the campaign.
Gomez received 64 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Toronto FC II’s Jordan Perruzza finished second on 14 percent after recording six goals in seven appearances over the month, while North Texas SC’s Ronaldo Damus finished third on 13 percent after recording six goals and added one assist in four appearances to claim the League One Golden Boot.
