Richmond Kickers claim narrow win at TFCII; Greenville Triumph SC hammers North Texas SC

North Texas SC (0) v Greenville Triumph SC (4)

Greenville Triumph SC became the first side to defeat North Texas SC at Toyota Stadium when they piled four on the home side with forward Jake Keegan's brace helping lead the way.

Key Events

North Texas SC midfielder Edwin Cerrillo was sent off after 20 minutes for a high boot leaving the hosts down a man for the remaining 70 minutes of the match.

Greenville Triumph SC took until the 62nd minute to break the deadlock when defender Tyler Polak picked out captain Aaron Walker at the top of the box, where the midfielder sliced a low effort through to the lower left corner of the goal and in.

Two minutes later, the Triumph doubled their lead as Polak played forward Jake Keegan through on goal where he calmly slotted past North Texas SC goalkeeper Carlos Avilez for the team's second.

It didn't take long for Keegan to find his second of the night when he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and lashed a right-footed effort in to put his team up three in the 70th minute.

Finally, in the 88th minute, the visitors would secure their fourth goal from the penalty spot when substitute Edmundo Robinson stepped up and converted from 12 yards out to add to Greenville's triumphs on the night.

Greenville will look to keep the momentum going when they host South Georgia Tormenta on Saturday, August 3, while North Texas SC travels to Chattanooga to face Red Wolves SC the same night.

Toronto FC II (1) v Richmond Kickers (2)

The Richmond Kickers defeated Toronto FC II, 2-1, to become the first team to knock off TFCII at home in the League One regular season.

Key Events

The hosts jumped out to a lead in the 7th minute when midfielder Matthew Srbely got on the other end of teammate Noble Okello's cross at the back post before finding the back of the net.

The Kickers found an equalizer after 35 minutes when a free kick swung in deep towards goal caused trouble for Toronto FC II goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky, who spilled the delivery into goal to gift the visitors a way back in.

Just after the half, Richmond earned a penalty with forward Joe Gallardo stepping up to take, only to miss but see the rebound slammed home by teammate Josh Hughes to give his side the lead.

In the 53rd minute, Srbely was again a catalyst for TFCII as he gained possession in midfielder before turning a defender inside and ripping a shot from 23 yards out that Kickers netminder Joseph Rice did well to parry away.

The hosts continued to pressure Richmond's goal and TFCII midfielder Luca Petrasso arguably came closest to clawing his side back to a draw, but an effort from distance that was heading for the top corner was saved well by Rice after 85 minutes.

The win was Richmond's second straight as they prepare for a visit to Forward Madison FC on Saturday, August 10, while TFCII will reset quickly, instead hosting the Mingos on Wednesday, July 31.
