TAMPA, Fla. – North Texas SC midfielder Arturo Rodriguez has been voted USL League One’s Player of the Month for May as he recorded two goals and three assists for the best attack in the league to lead his side to the top of the League One standings at the end of the month.
The 20-year-old has been one of the standout performers in the inaugural League One season and sits tied for the league-lead with four assists. In addition to his goals and assists during North Texas’ run to the top of the standings, Rodriguez also recorded a league-high 15 key passes over the month, illustrating the creativity he has brought NTSC in the attacking third of the field.
“I think the team is understanding each other well and I think that's why we've had guys do some great things but it's all because of every person on the pitch,” said Rodriguez. “It's all thanks to teamwork. We've meshed well together, and we've stayed winning and that's what has made us look good.”
“I think that's a very fair award for him given the form he's in,” added North Texas SC Head Coach Eric Quill. “I think he's getting better and better each game. He's now separating himself from the pack, whether that be within our group or the league, as an attacking, special player. My hope is that Arturo keeps along this trajectory because he can have a really nice career and I think he's getting a lot more people talking about him versus maybe what they were talking about three months ago.”
Rodriguez received 61 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Forward Madison FC’s Don Smart finished in second on 18 percent after recording two goals and two assists over the month, while FC Tucson’s Devyn Jambga took third place on 10 percent after recording three goals in the month.
